How does a business manage information on Apple Maps?
Through Apple Business. Apple currently states that Apple Business Connect is now Apple Business, combining former Connect, Manager and Essentials capabilities.
Existing Business Connect data — including claimed locations, place cards, photos and organisation details — migrated when Apple Business launched. Some Apple Support articles still say “Apple Business Connect.” Use the current Apple Business product and Apple Business User Guide as the management path. Customers who only use Maps can still report issues from the Maps app; owners should manage the location in Apple Business.
Can I claim an existing location?
Yes. If the place already exists on Maps, you can add that existing location in Apple Business and verify it, including by phone when Apple offers that option.
Apple’s Add a location guide describes adding an existing location, verifying with a phone call when available, and requesting a transfer if another organisation already manages it. Transfer review can take up to five business days, with supporting documents such as a business licence or utility bill. Apple Maps support also describes claiming a place from the Maps app and signing in to complete the process.
Can I add a missing business?
Yes. If the location is not on Maps, Apple Business lets you add a new location with name, address, map position, category, status, phone, optional website and hours.
If this is the organisation’s first location, Apple requires organisation verification and review. “Opening soon” dates cannot be more than six months away. If the name you entered is already managed, Apple shows that the location is already managed; you add it and then request a transfer rather than inventing a second place.
What information can I control?
After the location is in your Apple Business account, you can manage place-card details Apple documents for locations: display name, category, map position, hours, photos, website or selected social URLs, status, and promotional showcases.
Apple’s add-location flow currently collects default language, display name, primary category, open or opening soon status, phone, optional website or Facebook, Instagram or TikTok page, hours, and brand association. Categories are updated over time. Not every field is customer-facing; location codes and partner IDs are for internal use. Photo review is a separate process; Apple currently says photo review can take up to three business days.
Why is my address or map pin wrong?
Often because the marked coordinate is on the wrong building, the address geocoded poorly, or Apple has not applied a correction yet.
Apple’s add-location instructions say to drag the map or enter coordinates if the marker is over the wrong building, and to use Hybrid or Satellite view to find the entrance. After the location exists, edit the location in Apple Business rather than creating a duplicate. Customers can also report place issues from Maps, and Apple may edit the place card from those reports.
How long can updates take?
Apple documents review windows measured in business days, not instant publication.
Contesting a display-name change that Apple made can take up to five business days for review. Location-transfer review can take up to five business days. Photo review can take up to three business days. Apple does not publish a single guaranteed time for every Maps update. If nothing has changed after a documented review window, check email from apple.com domains and the location’s status in Apple Business.
Does Apple Maps get information only from Apple Business?
No. Apple Business is the owner-management path, but Apple also uses customer reports and can edit place cards itself.
Apple currently says customers can report that a place card shows a location open when they find it closed, and that Apple reviews those reports and edits the place card. Owners then receive email and can accept or contest changes to name, status or hours. Do not assume that claiming the location is the only source Apple will ever use.
What other Apple services can use the business information?
Apple currently states that business details updated in Apple Business Connect appear in several places, including Maps, Siri, Safari, Calendar and more. Apple’s newsroom description of Apple Business also refers to place cards displaying across Apple Maps, Safari, Spotlight and more.
Use that as a reason to keep one accurate identity, not as a ranking promise on every Apple surface. Source: If Maps isn't working on your Apple device (published 15 May 2026; the article still uses the Connect name).
Should Apple information match Google?
The platforms do not need identical interface fields. The factual business identity — name, address, phone, hours and whether the location is open — should stay accurate on both.
Categories, photos and product features differ. Copying Google’s category list into Apple without checking Apple’s category list creates avoidable mismatches. Keep citation management and entity SEO aligned with the same real-world facts. If answers elsewhere still show the wrong hours or address, start with inconsistent business information online and Local SEO and AI search.
Apple Maps business accuracy checklist
- Search Maps for name and address before creating anything.
- Claim the existing place or add a missing one in Apple Business.
- Correct the pin on the actual entrance, not the street midpoint.
- Match hours, phone and website to the same facts customers see elsewhere.
- Allow Apple’s documented review time before submitting another conflicting edit.
- Watch for Apple-initiated updates and contest them only with better evidence.
What not to assume
- That a verified Google Business Profile will appear on Apple Maps automatically.
- That Apple publishes a guaranteed ranking system comparable to Google’s local pack.
- That every country has the same Maps features.
- That a transfer request is approved the same day.
What not to do
- Do not create a second Apple location because the first one is still in review.
- Do not treat Google hours as a paste job if Apple already shows a different, correct seasonal schedule.
- Do not ignore Apple’s emails about place-card edits.
- Do not upload photos that fail Apple’s photo and text standards and then assume Maps is “broken.”
Practical action plan
- Search Apple Maps as a customer would.
- Open Apple Business. Claim, add, or request a transfer.
- Fix pin, name, category, hours and photos to match the real location.
- Wait for documented review windows. Check status rather than stacking edits.
- Keep Google, Apple, Bing and the website on the same factual identity.
When professional help makes sense
Help is useful when the location is claimed by a previous owner, the pin sits on the wrong building, or NAP is already inconsistent across major platforms. It cannot guarantee Apple approval, Maps placement or Siri citations.
